ANJ’s Falque-Pierrotin elected as GREF Chair

Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, President of l’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has been elected as the Chairwoman of the Gambling Regulators’ European Forum (GREF).

The appointment was confirmed following the conclusion of the GREF annual conference in Bergen, Norway (5-7 June), which featured the participation of 90 executives from 30 European authorities governing gambling.

This year’s conference focused on the ‘common interests’ between regulators with regards to player protections, market integrity, and technology innovations.

Recognised as one of France’s highest-ranking legal scholars, in 2020 Falque-Pierrotin was charged with founding the ANJ as a new regulatory body to unify the governance of all French gambling disciplines (online and land-based).

Falque-Pierrotin will serve as chair of GREF for a term of two years, leading a board that includes Anders Dorph, President of Spillemyndighedens Denmark, as Vice Chairman.

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) Regulatory Director, Tim Miller, will serve as Treasurer of the group, accompanied by Sarah Kelly from the Alderney Gambling Control Commission as Secretary.

The GREF board is finalised by Magali Clavie from the Belgian Commission des jeux de hasard, Atle Hamar from the Norwegian Lottstift, and Kinga Warda from the Malta Gaming Authority, who are the Ordinary Members of the board.

GREF’s immediate agenda will focus on “new market challenges, and fostering cooperation to enable regulators to understand trends better and develop effective and legitimate solutions.”

The first assessment of the new Board’s activities will be made at the next GREF Annual Conference, to be held in Malta in May 2024.

Falque-Pierrotin commented: “In this time of accelerating innovation and challenging current regulations, and with public opinion concerned about player protection, the European level is crucial.

“We are indeed facing common questions and our exchanges are productive. I believe that in this very complicated period, regulators have a specific voice that needs to be heard, one that listens to the various stakeholders and serves to protect players.”
