Betting & Gaming APPG closes political ranks

UK gambling will no longer have the support of the All-Party Betting & Gaming Group, which has called time on its parliamentary activity for the foreseeable future. 

The decision was announced by Secretariat Steve Donoughue, who cited that officers had chosen to close the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) formally.

“We would like to thank all of the Parliamentarians who have taken time to be involved over the years, especially Chairs and Officers past and present, we thank them for their invaluable contribution.” – read Donoughue‘s statement.

The APPG’s closure recognises the recommendations made by the Gambling Review’s White Paper, in which consultations will be launched into the various aspects of gambling regulatory future.

The group’s officers will uphold gambling as an important political issue and as an important sector for the UK economy.

As such, the APPG will be replaced by an “informal network of those interested in the British gambling industry and hopefully organise ad hoc meetings and discussions outside the formal Parliamentary All Party Group structure.”

Donoughue continued: “The Group is very grateful for the engagement of those in the industry and associated industries over many years.”
