OPTIMA passes South Africa certification test

Award winning betting technology supplier OPTIMA is ready to service the regulated gambling market of South Africa after obtaining the necessary Gaming Labs International (GLI) certification to deliver its OPTIMAMGS™ platform to operators in the rainbow nation.

The sports betting and gaming solutions provider is now certified according to the regulations for online operations as well as for retail in Cape Town, Gauteng and Kwana-Zulu, meaning its system can now be used with confidence in each of the country’s major provinces.

“It is with great pleasure that we obtain this certification from GLI,” said OPTIMA CEO Jacob Lopez. It gives us assurance not only that we can operate in South Africa, but also that the highest level of compliance has been met and we are prepared to service the country’s operators immediately, with a very quick and effective time to market.

“OPTIMA, as part of its group strategy of operating only in regulated markets, is now certified in all the major jurisdictions worldwide including France, Spain, UK, Malta, Gibraltar, Romania, Bulgaria, South Africa, Sweden and others. We expect obtaining GLI-33 certification before the end of June as part of our global expansion strategy.”

In November of last year, South Africa’s parliamentary committee on Trade and Industry adopted the National Gambling Amendment Act 2018, a divisive bill that had been discussed back and forth since 2016, but only after narrowing its focus to just three core issues.

The notable changes made were transferring regulatory oversight to the new National Gambling Regulator, improving governance at the National Gambling Policy Council and broadening the National Central Electronic Monitoring System to monitor all modes of gambling activity.
