Ladbrokes predicts that the forthcoming UK general election, will be the biggest political betting market of all time.
Ladbrokes announced to UK media and news sources that it expected a staggering £100 million to be wagered on the May vote, as the UK election heats up in the coming months.
Ladbrokes Head of Political Betting Matthew Shaddick commented on the market
“Based on trends so far and comparing it to 2010, we are forecasting that there will be more than £100m ($153m, €137m) worth of bets in the UK on this general election, “We are pretty sure it’s going to be the biggest betting election, probably two or three times as big as we saw in 2010.”
Ladbrokes revealed that it expected South Thanet, to be the most contested seat as controversial UKIP leader Nigel Farage aims to win the constituency.
“We are forecasting that this seat is going to be the biggest constituency in the country for betting interests this year, based on Farage being very newsworthy, also the fact that either Labour or the Tories can be realistic challengers here,
At present Ladbrokes have placed Farage favourite in the seat on 1/3, with the Tories on 3/1, Labour on 8/1 and the Liberal Democrats on 100/1
Ladbrokes will publish further betting insight and market trends as the May vote approaches, in what promises to be an intriguing UK general election
