William Hill terminates Lincoln Handicap sponsorship

lincolnWilliam Hill has announced that it will no longer sponsor the Lincoln Handicap, as the operator looks to cut on marketing spend due to the introduction of new gambling taxes on its business.

The decision to terminate its sponsorship of the race, ends of UK racings longest sponsorship agreements (William Hill had sponsored the event since 1990). The operator stated that it took its decision as a direct consequence of the new gambling tax regime.

Speaking to the Racing Post William Hill PR Director Kate Miller commented:

“We have dropped our sponsorship of the Lincoln. We had to review a number of our marketing investments on the back of point of consumption tax. We reviewed all our sponsorships and the Lincoln was let go as a result of that review.”

Asked by Racing Post if Hills were axing any other big-race sponsorships, Miller replied: “No, just the Lincoln for the moment. There was no specific reason, but the renewal of it came up at an opportune moment and we chose not to renew because of the introduction of point of consumption tax.”

Lincoln race track operators Arc are set to be seeking for new sponsors to cover the £100,000 prize purse for the race
