Top National Hunt and Flat Jockeys Barry GeraghtyAndrew McNamaraNiall ‘Slippers’ MaddenPat SmullenFran Berry, and Shane Foley are just some of the names who have signed up for the Jog for Jockeys 5km & 10km races at the Curragh on Sunday 24th August. All monies raised will be donated to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.

Grand National and Gold Cup winning Jockey, Barry Geraghty said: “I ran the 10km race last year and was the first jockey home in that distance. I’m doing the 10km again this year and I’m really looking forward to it. Both 5km and 10km routes are pretty special – It’s not every day non-thoroughbreds get a chance to run up the famous Curragh Racecourse home-straight.

There are currently 16 Jockeys side-lined with injuries at the moment including our current Irish National Hunt Champion Jockey Ruby Walsh, who is recovering from shoulder surgery after a fall in Cheltenham in March and Bryan Cooper who also broke his leg at the same meeting. The Irish Injured Jockeys Fund supports all these lads including JT McNamara and Jonjo Bright who will require on-going medical care for the rest of their lives – both paralysed from falls within weeks of each other in March 2013.”

Event Co-ordinator Audrey O’Dwyer added: “With just over a week to go, I’d urge as many runners and walkers to register for the 5km or 10km on www.jogforjockeys.ie and support the Injured Jockeys Fund which assists our jockeys while they are out of action. Online entry costs €20 or entry on the day costs €25, for either route. A team of five is €100, with the three best times to count. All children can take part free of charge – It’s a great day out.”

All runners who pre-register online will receive a race t-shirt and regardless of distance, all participants will be provided with timing chips to record accurate race times. Sponsorship cards are also available online and from reception in Horse Racing Ireland at Ballymany, the Curragh, Co. Kildare. Start time for 10km run is 11am and the 5km runners will begin at 11:20am.
