Coljuegos mandates for more gambling protections in Colombia

Colombia’s gambling regulator, Coljuegos, has introduced a new bill to help with the prevention of harmful gambling behaviour.

As reported by SBC Noticias, resolution 22654 will incentivise efforts for the adoption of responsible gambling practices among players and operators alike through education and additional support opportunities for those dealing with loss of control.

Operators will now be required to implement more stringent monitoring to better detect compulsive players. Gamblers, on the other hand, will have access to a number of tools to help identify risk factors and patterns related to gambling harm.

Coljuegos will take lead on the review of the new mandatory action plans that operators must submit under the latest resolution, going through “the actions carried out, the compliance indicators and the results obtained” submitted as part of the audits.

Marco Emilio Hincapié, President of Coljuegos, commented: “We are asking operators to implement campaigns to inform bettors about the risks associated with compulsive gambling.

“In the case of innovative games that are offered online, including Baloto, SuperAstro and operated online, we are asking operators to make the self-exclusion process available, this in order that users can be voluntarily blocked when they present risky behaviors.”

This marks the latest efforts of Coljuegos to tighten player protection policies in Colombia. Earlier this year, the regulator began collaborative work with the country’s National Superintendence of Health that facilitated the exchange of technical knowledge for behaviour surveillance and an increase in funding for public health initiatives.
