Farage at 14/1 to be named Time Person of the Year

Paddy Power has put former UKIP leader and Brexiteer Nigel Farage in as a 14/1 shot to land the Time Person of the Year award.

Farage has been shortlisted for Time Magazine’s prestigious award alongside the likes of US President-elect and new best friend Donald Trump, and pop music queen Beyonce.

Each year Time Magazine gives the title to the person, group, idea or object that “for better or for worse, has done the most to influence the events of the year”.

As such it’s far from a vindication of the winner’s action in the past year, merely a statement that that person has made an exceptional impact.

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage is no stranger to upsetting the odds after successfully spearheading the drive for a Leave vote in this summer’s EU Referendum, and the bookmaker gives him an outside chance of scooping the award.

Of course it’s Donald Trump who is heavy favourite to land the prize (2/5) after shaking-up global politics with his shock US Election win, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is next best at 10/1.

The winner of the award will be announced tomorrow.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “If the odds are right, then Donald Trump seems to have this one in the bag and regardless of whether Farage manages to upset the odds again or not, I’m sure he’ll be invited to The Don’s celebration bash.”
