SportPesa signs shirt sponsorship deal with Hull City

It has been revealed that SportPesa, a bookmaker based in Kenya, has signed a three year deal with Hull City to become the club’s new official shirt sponsor.

The agreement is said to be the most lucrative in the Tigers’ history and it’s also a clear signal of intent from the bookmaker.

Simon King, Commercial Manager at Hull City Tigers, the company which runs the club, said of the partnership: “We are delighted to form a three-year partnership with SportPesa.

“SportPesa are so much more than a betting brand, this is a company with a huge footprint across grassroots sport in Kenya, as well as the rest of Africa.

“The deal is by far the largest in our history and a sign of our ambition to grow our Club and become a household name in our sport globally.”

This marks SportPesa’s sponsorship entrance in the UK but the operator is already a well known brand name throughout much of East Africa. It’s the title sponsor of the Kenyan Premier League and also has deals in place with both AFC Leopards and the current champions Gor Mahia.

Back in February of this year it also established a grassroots football development partnership with Arsenal, which also saw the bookmaker become the club’s official betting partner in Kenya.

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri said: “This is a big milestone for SportPesa as it marks the scaling of a Kenyan brand into the global market. The SportPesa platform will now be available in the United Kingdom and later in the year present in several African countries. One year from now we will have presence in at least four continents.”

He added: “Part of our deal will see The Tigers be the first English Premier League team ever to come to Kenya to play a select side as part of our campaign towards having Kenya compete in the World Cup for the first time in 2022.”

The deal, which was announced today alongside the new kit release, comes at a somewhat turbulent time for the club after Steve Bruce left the club barely two months after leading them to the Premier League.
