Criticism for Sportsbet’s ‘Fifty Shades of Greyhound’

Australian bookmaker Sportsbet has produced its own take on the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon producing a two-minute teaser for ‘Fifty Shades of Greyhound’.

The campaign recreates the film’s trailer with a tale of a woman’s love for her greyhound in a series of risqué, compromising; and just plain weird scenarios involving peanut butter and some bondage-style dog leads.

Sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne punned: “Sportsbet is giving doggy style a whole new meaning in a production that will leave you hot under the collar.”

However it seems that the Paddy Power-owned betting brand has a reputation akin to its parent company and there has been plenty of criticism. Animal Liberation described the ad as exploitative and demeaning to the greyhound. A spokesman told Daily Mail Australia: “We completely oppose the whole notion of bestiality, which is clearly implied in ambiguous light in the clip. It is a federal offence and penalties are severe. It is likely that exploitation would could have occurred in ‘training’ the dog to make the clip which is also not acceptable. Also, dressing the dog up demeans the animal.”
