GamCare hires healthcare delivery expert Victoria Corbishley as new CEO

GamCare has welcomed the appointment of Victoria Corbishley as Chief Executive of the UK’s frontline provider of treatment support services for gambling harms.

An expert in the management of public health services, responsibilities, and the delivery of treatment and care, Corbishley is a former Senior Director of the British Red Cross, where she led the charity’s health and care units.

Of distinction, Corbishley has further led NHS England projects focus on the transformation of models of care and organisational management of healthcare services.

GamCare noted: “Victoria has a proven track record in leading complex health systems and driving service improvements at scale while maintaining a strong commitment to evidence-based, person-centred care.”

The appointment of Corbishley comes at a pivotal moment for all organisations involved in the prevention and treatment of gambling harms, following the implementation of a new statutory RET Levy, expected to be applied from 1 April.

The new system will see the NHS, alongside the “Prevention Commissioner” and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), serve as the chief stewards of the Levy’s guaranteed £100m annual funding for research, education, and treatment programmes across British communities.

Irrespective of these changes, GamCare will continue its mandate to expand the outreach of treatment services to improve accessibility for those seeking help. Furthermore, the charity continues its collaborative efforts to broaden awareness of gambling harms among communities and businesses, recognising them as both a social disorder and a mental illness.

Victoria Corbishley, Chief Executive Officer of GamCare, comments: I am honoured to join GamCare at this crucial time.”

“Last year alone, GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline received over 55,000 calls and online chats. The charity also directly delivered more than 9,100 structured treatment sessions, referred over 7,100 individuals to other regional support providers, and 64,000 people participated in the charity’s education programmes.”

“My focus will be on ensuring GamCare remains a leader in delivering life-changing interventions while working closely with partners across the NHS and the wider sector to shape the future of gambling harm prevention and treatment.”

As part of the review of the RET Levy and governance of the problem gambling treatment support network, GamCare had called on the government to recognise the importance of third-sector organisations such as GamCare, which provide first-hand treatment for gambling harms across the UK.

The call was led by Chair Margot Daly, who welcomed the appointment of Corbishley as CEO:”As GamCare navigates the evolving landscape, Victoria’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our collaborations with the NHS, as well as UKRI and OHID, as the new Prevention Commissioner.

Her strategic mindset, operational expertise, and commitment to innovation align perfectly with our mission. I look forward to working with Victoria as we continue to expand GamCare’s impact and ensure our services remain responsive to the needs of those we support.”
