With an estimated £83 billion pounds laundered by criminals using sports betting, Callcredit Information Group urges the gaming industry to ensure they have robust fraud checks in place this summer as the World Cup gets firmly underway.
The 2010 World Cup saw a surge in new players placing online bets and if the 2014 tournament follows suit gaming operators will need to make sure their systems can handle this uplift, with a predicted 400% increase of mobile gambling during this month.
Sadie Guymer, Telco & Gaming – Risk Solutions commented: “With football betting already accounting for 75% of all bets made and the World Cup set to increase the number of bets further, it’s more vital than ever for operators to have the appropriate KYC checks in place. It’s expected that £1 billion will be wagered during the tournament and operators will therefore need to be confident that they can verify as many customers as possible to maximise their profits, while reducing the volumes of fraud.”
