SBC Digital Summit Africa Day Two Preview

Five valuable insights for operators on day two of SBC Digital Summit Africa

Day two of the SBC Digital Summit Africa virtual conference and exhibition will again provide invaluable opportunities to learn what it takes to succeed in the continent’s betting and gaming markets.

The conference agenda for Wednesday 7 October will see senior executives with on-the-ground experience of a wide variety of African markets share their knowledge of the key issues affecting the growth paths of both established and new operators in the region.

Among the questions the experts speakers will answer are:

  • Which sports and games really work for bookmakers?

The popularity of sports, particular leagues, and virtual games varies widely from market to market in Africa. The Football Betting – Local v International, Esports in Africa, and Virtuals to the Rescue panels will offer in-depth advice into what to target where.

Experts participating include Neil Wilkie (CEO, LPB), Jimmy Keneth (Chairman, Tanzania Sports Betting Association), Josh Sparke (Head of Procurement, LiveScore Group), Chris Duncan (Director of Products, Black Op Ventures), Emmanuel Oyelakin (Founder & CEO, League of Extraordinary Gamers), and Kwecy Hayford (President, Ghana Esports Association).

  • What is the future for retail betting?

Africa’s betting shops are more than just a place to gamble, they also provide a social setting to meet friends and watch sporting action from around the world. However, the growth of internet gambling threatens that status, and the speakers on the Role of Retail Betting panel will assess what the future holds for betting shops as more African players head online?

The expert panelists include Hilton Hasson (Director, World Sports Betting), Dotun Ajegbile (Chairman, Betland Gaming), Tayo Atoloye (Country Manager Nigeria, Marathonbet) and Jason Dedekind (Director, JJBK Consulting).

  • What strategies can be used to combat problem gambling?

The Problem Gambling – The South Africa Approach session will examine the methods being used in South Africa to monitor players and promote responsible betting, as well as explore how they can be implemented in other countries. The speakers include Robin Bennett (Head of Department: Regulatory Compliance, Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board), Alan Weinrib (CEO, Web Gaming Consultants), and Marc Isaacson (Co-Owner, iBet Nigeria).

  • What is the profile of the African sports betting player of the future?

No business can succeed without understanding its customers’ requirements, but economic growth and the increasing availability of technology is rapidly changing the profile of African consumers. The Analysing the African Sports Consumer session will see specialists including Cameron Green (Founder, F9 Media Group), Kwadwo Amaning-Kwarteng (General Manager, Betyetu), John Mutua (East Africa Gaming Consultant), and Keith Hathaway (Founder, Af Gam Elite) examine what this means for sports betting operators.

  • How can blockchain be used in gaming?

Blockchain technology has been long touted as the future, but there is still uncertainty over what it does and how it can actually work in a gaming environment. Find out more about its capabilities and potential in the Everything You Wanted to Know About Blockchain Gaming But Were Afraid to Ask session, which will see Harmen Brenninkmeijer (CEO, Quanta), John Kamara (Director, Naija Lottery), and Ian Sherrington (CPO, Quanta) answering questions from the audience.

In addition to the 8 conference sessions on day two, all the panels from the opening day of SBC Digital Summit Africa will be available on-demand to delegates. There is also an interactive product display area with leading suppliers showcasing innovations tailored for local markets, together with the Disruptive Trends in the African Gaming Industry networking roundtable hosted by Gaming Advisory Africa.
