Vodafone backs Allwyn to be the National Lottery’s next steward

Telecoms giant Vodafone has backed the Allwyn bid to win the UK government’s Fourth National Lottery Licence competition.

Vodafone has committed to serve as ‘connectivity partner’ of Allwyn’s National Lottery tender, helping digitise the National Lottery’s operations and services for a new generation of customers.

Allwyn, the new British venture of Czech gambling conglomerate SAZKA Group, branded Vodafone’s backing as a major coup for its bid to replace 30-year incumbent Camelot UK as the principal steward of the National Lottery.

Moving forward, Vodafone will serve as a critical technology partner with regards to how Allwyn will strategise and scale the UK’s ultra-demanding retail and digital commerce surroundings.

Stating its intentions to revitalise all dynamics of the National Lottery, Allwyn underscored that its bid was now backed by the leading telecoms player in 5G connectivity and a company reshaping Britain position within the Internet of Things (IoT) .

“We have provided market-leading connectivity in the UK for more than 30 years, and we understand the technologies that enable the best, most cutting-edge experiences,” said Anne Sheehan, Business Director of Vodafone UK.

“With our innovative portfolio of 4G, 5G, IoT and fixed connectivity solutions, we can ensure in-app, online and retail journeys are simple and reliable for customers across the UK.”

Bolstering its UK presence, this month SAZKA established Allwyn as its UK registered business, which will maintain all responsibilities related to its National Lottery tender led by Sir Keith Mills.

Further developments this week saw Allwyn announce the appointment of Twitter UK managing director Dara Nasr joining its bid team as an advisory on digital strategies.

“At Allwyn, as part of SAZKA Group, we make lotteries better so that they can serve as a force for good. We often do this by bringing the fun back to lotteries that have lost their spark, while always safeguarding our players – ensuring sustainable growth and more money to good causes along the way,” Mills commented.

“With innovative partners like Vodafone, an experienced steward in SAKZA Group, and an impressive advisory board that includes Justin King and Brent Hoberman, Allwyn is building an exciting and credible future proposition for the UK market.”
