Soldier Jon Heywood from Crewe (Cheshire) has been named Betway biggest ever winner, after striking a €17.8 million (£13.2 million) jackpot on Microgaming’s Mega Moolah progressive slot.
A 25p spin on the slot, saw Heywood land the €17,879,645 progressive jackpot, setting a world record for the the largest payout in an online slot machine game.
Heywood’s win, is the highest ever jackpot payout by a Microgaming slot, beating the previous record set by a Finnish player by €18,000.
Mr Heywood, who toured Afghanistan with the Army, said: “I couldn’t believe that I’d won all this money and it still hasn’t sunk in.
“It’s amazing. The first thing I will spend it on is the best possible medical treatment for my dad. That’s more important than anything.
Betway spokesman Alan Alger said his firm was “delighted” to have one of its customers set the record and “having met him the day after his win, we can honestly say that it couldn’t happen to a nicer young man.”
Microgaming CEO Roger Raatgever said his firm had paid out “over half a billion Euros” via its online progressive slots since 1998 and congratulated Heywood on his “life-changing and historic win.”
