ANJ appoints Xavier Asperge as French gambling’s IT supervisor

Strengthening its compliance remit, l’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), France’s unified gambling regulator, has confirmed the appointment of Xavier Asperge as its Director of Technical Expertise and Systems Supervision.

Asperge will be tasked with developing the ANJ’s new tech supervisory unit, the division charged with monitoring and registering all tech-related components of licensed French gambling businesses.

A qualified telecommunications engineer, Asperge holds a distinguished career within France’s Civil Service, having led a number of IT-related and tech transition projects for core government departments.

Prior to joining the ANJ, Asperge served as the Deputy Director of IT systems for France’s General Directorate of Customs and has also served as deputy technical director for France’s Social Ministries.

The ANJ branded Asperge as a key appointment assisting the regulator with establishing its new technical frameworks and system requirements to govern France’s new unified gambling marketplace.

“Xavier Asperge will steer the definition of technical requirements in terms of the integrity of gaming operations and the security of information systems and the monitoring of their implementation by the operators, in particular through the examination of the approvals of software and certifications,” ANJ’s statement read.

At the start of 2021, the ANJ issued its new ‘technical command for licensed businesses, which were forced to comply with new data obligations while registering all technology supplier contracts with the ANJ.

This week, France’s Council of State granted the ANJ extended powers to utilise France’s ‘Consumer Code’ as further provision for governing French licensed operators.
