Sun Bets – Brexit UK 20/1 to finish bottom of Eurovision 2017

As Prime Minister Theresa May prepares to Trigger Article 50 on Wednesday 29 of March, British pop music may become the first victim of Great Britain’s fractured relationship with Europe.

Opening ‘Eurovision 2017’ markets, the majority of bookmakers have placed UK entry Lucie Jones ‘Never Give Up on You’ at a longshot 35-40/1 to win the 62nd pan-European song contest.

Taking place in Kiev Ukraine on 13 May, the Eurovision song contest is never far from political controversy. With the UK choosing to withdraw itself from the European Union, bookmakers are questioning whether Great Britain will have ‘any Euro friends’ who will provide points for its 2017 pop entry.

Speaking to SBC, Sun Bets PR Spokesman Tim Reynolds commented on the unique market

“We’re a bit biased on this song because everyone in Sun Bets HQ loved ‘Never Give Up On You’ before Eurovision: You Decide and we were delighted to see Lucie Jones picked to represent the UK. So for all the anti-British feeling that the UK can expect in Kiev, we make us an unlikely 20/1 shot to finish bottom.”

“The song has its limitations, the key one being that it’s one-paced. We’d love the song kick into a bit of a dance beat on the third chorus with a nice fat bass line- which would have played well with Europop fans across the world but instead the song is just a simple ballad.”

“Thankfully though, a well-sung ballad by a pretty female in English is very unlikely to finish bottom in Eurovision, especially given the new voting system.”
