SBC: How did you first get into sports betting?

Luc:  I have been in sports and computers throughout my entire life. In the mid 90’s I got my first job at a local newspaper covering European Football. A couple of months later I was asked to produce a weekly betting magazine. Now I’ve been in the betting business for almost two decades.

SBC: At what point did you realize that you can make some real money from sports betting?

Luc:  After reading several books and putting all the knowledge I got into practice. This was a slow procedure, it didn’t happen overnight.

SBC:  How did you come to select Basketball as your chosen sport

Luc: According to research made into the most popular professional sports, it is estimated that the contribution of luck in basketball is just 12%. When an activity is mostly skill we can make more accurate estimations. Basketball is the best sport for stats-based betting in my opinion and betting limits are higher than minor sports.

SBC: Are there any particular events that you look forward to throughout the year?

Luc: Since I base my betting on stats, every round of games is the same. Opportunities can be found anytime of the year. I have to admit though that I prefer leagues that have a long season, like the NBA, the major Asian Leagues and some European like Czech Rep, Finland etc.

SBC:    What was your best ever bet?

Luc: I look for long term profit and thus all bets should be treated in the same way. My best bets used to be prop bets, like how many points Lebron James will score. Especially in the NBA play offs prop bets could prove very profitable.

SBC: What kind of factors do you evaluate before making a selection?

Luc: I handicap games on my own based on a team’s offensive and defensive stats. All my betting strategies are built on ratings and I place a bet only when I find value.

SBC:   Do you have any future plans in regards to your service?

Luc: I always try to find new strategies. This is a never ending process. I want to involve more stats in my estimations, in order to make them more accurate.

SBC:  What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your betting career?

To stay focused, disciplined, away from distractions. In the daily business the most difficult part is how to learn to accept loses and stick to your plan.

SBC:   How do you balance your betting time and family life?

The key is to work hard and a lot in advance. Being ahead of schedule helps you avoid pressure and stay calm. It makes things easier and you can find a lot of time to dedicate to your family. But in order to win in betting you have to work a lot, there is no other way. I also never watch the games I have bet on. This is good for my family, as I spend more time with them and on my betting, as I avoid all the emotions produced by a live game.

SBC: Do you have a favorite team that you follow regularly?

Luc:  After 20 years in betting, my favourite team emotions have evaporated. When I was younger, I used to support my local team PAOK FC.

SBC:  How do you keep calm when you hit a run of losing bets?

Luc: First of all, accept it. Losing runs are a part of betting. When I find myself going through a bad run of losses, I always stick to my plan, review if necessary and stay patient. This is one of the hardest disciplines for the amateur bettor and is learned though practice.

SBC:  How do you organize your bank management?

Luc: I treat your betting bank like a share investment. I have a separate betting capital and all my bets are only a small percentage (3%) of it. Being correctly capitalised allows me to concentrate on my system and select my bets correctly. I would call myself a “volume” bettor, as I place a high number of bets and although the yield is not so great as a percentage, the actual profit over a period of time adds up to something substantial

SBC: What is the best reason you could give to anyone who was thinking about following your service?

Luc: The majority of bettors lose because they can’t control their emotions. I take emotions out of my decisions. Long term betting is about decisions, not results.
