Sky & ITV invest in 24hr eSports channel Ginx TV

UK broadcasters’ ITV and Sky have made their first moves into the burgeoning eSports market by investing in 24-hour video gaming channel Ginx TV.

ITV and Sky have each invested £1.5 million in Ginx TV for a reported 16.5% stake in the company. Furthermore, as investors the broadcasters will be given first rights to increase their shareholdings in the TV channel.

The GINX esports TV channel is available in eleven languages across 41 territories providing 24/7 video games content to its consumers. It UK and Ireland eSports content is currently broadcast on Sky channel 470.

The London-based TV Channel reported gross assets of £900,000 and a pre-tax loss of £700,000 in the year to 31 December 2015.

Confirming Sky’s investment in Ginx TV,  Emma Lloyd Sky’s Group Director of Business Development and Partnerships, commented “At Sky we are committed to bringing new programmes and channels such as Ginx eSports TV to support and extend our leadership position in content.”
