Casual and social games development studio Big Fish Games is set to undergo a major restructuring that may lead to company resourcing and operational cut backs. Reports from the Seattle Times newspaper comment that the games developer may witness a loss of up to 140 jobs at their offices in the US and Europe.
Further reports have stated that so far cutbacks have led to 49 people being laid-off at the developers Seattle headquarters in the US state of Washington, Big Fish is also set to close down its European operations which are currently operated in the Ireland. 89 jobs are expected to be lost.
A letter by Paul Thelen, founder and chief executive, sent to employees on Thursday morning stating that the company would also replace its president and close a studio in Vancouver, Canada.. The letter made the following annoucment public by Mr Thelen:-
“We are making these adjustments from a position of strength, not weakness, and I am confident that our best days are ahead,” Thelen said.
“We had to make some very hard choices about these business areas that are not growing or profitable.I want to stress that our decisions are not based on our company-wide performance or that of the people working on those initiatives – both of which are strong – but because of where the market is growing, and quite frankly, where it is not.”
