The Dutch gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has revealed that a number of licensed operators have offered unauthorised bets on sports matches.
An investigation into the matter found that a total of seven operators have facilitated betting options for u-21 matches and amateur competitions, which are not permitted under current Dutch regulations due to a ‘heightened risk of manipulation’.
In its decision to ban such events from the betting calendar, the KSA argues that young people under the age of 21 may be easier to manipulate, hence the bigger threat to sports integrity.
Two operators allowed for bets on the number of yellow and red cards, as well as corner kicks on matches worldwide during the 2023/24 football season – which is also not allowed according to local Dutch regulations.
The KSA further informed that all parties have been summoned and ordered to take and keep the prohibited betting options off the market. The regulator has also advised betting providers to report any other future incidents that might infringe on betting rules.
A subsequent check will be carried out further down the line to see if the unauthorised betting offers have been discontinued, which could result in a sanction if a failure is constituted.
