Punters wise of City’s faltering form – AccaTracker Analysis

pelligriniTottenham Hotspur’s defenestration of Manchester City may have been the shock result of the weekend, but the nation’s punters were more prepared for a Spurs win than most.

Data from AccaTracker, the mobile app developed by Team FA to help users keep track of their multiple bets, shows that punters shied away from including the match in their accumulators – indicating that they had lost faith in Manchester City’s abilities to run roughshod over the opposition.

In a high scoring weekend, Manchester United lived up to their banker status by dispatching sorry Sunderland, but a pair of 2-2 draws have still left bookmakers with a smile on their face. West Ham’s erratic home form came to the fore again when they rescued a 2-2 draw against Norwich while Chelsea’s fought back from 2-0 down at Newcastle to secure a draw. Both games were in the top 5 most chosen matches by punters.

Team FA Director of Marketing Tim Pindar commented: “Whether it was people betting for Manchester United or just as likely against Sunderland, the weekend’s most popular match for accumulators went with form. Fortunately for bookmakers, punters seemed to plump with West Ham and Chelsea this weekend despite some of the odd results that both team have been involved in so far this season, and that would have undermined many weekend accas.”
