Lega Pro renews Sportradar match-fixing monitoring contract

sportradar-ballItaly’s Lega Pro has renewed its long-standing partnership with Sportradar, ensuring that the  provider of match-fixing support and services will continue to both monitor the Lega Pro leagues with its renowned Fraud Detection System (FDS) and provide its educational Fraud Prevention Service (FPS) workshops until the end of the 2017-2018 season. To underline this commitment and the importance of the partnership to Lega Pro, the official match ball for the leagues will carry a new, combined logo, with the words “Lega Pro-Integrity”.

One of the early adopters of the Fraud Prevention Services, Lega Pro has worked with Sportradar since the 2011-2012 season and has found the educational services to be perfectly tailored to its needs and objectives. The players and the management of the clubs have both commented positively on the programs, which are structured in two parts: the first taking on a theoretical approach that looks into the legal and judicial aspects of the issue and how those impact on careers, while the second part moves to real-life case studies and situations that Sportradar are uniquely placed to analyse due to their expertise and bring the message home. This approach, that also looks at the important role that new technologies and social media has to play, has provided attendees with a perfect complement to the Fraud Detection System, that Lega Pro has used in parallel to detect suspicious matches and individuals.

“The seamless, global monitoring of the global betting market, paired with the education of our players, managers, executive staff and referees has been instrumental in changing awareness and behaviour” said Mario Macalli, President of Lega Pro. “In the coming weeks, the ‘Lega Pro Integrity Tour’ will target the clubs taking part in our ‘Championship of the Municipalities’ and will show once again to our fans and stakeholders that we are fully committed to honest football”.

Talking about the renewal, Sportradar Managing Director Andreas Krannich added: “This partnership is so important for our Security Services. Lega Pro have been unceasing in their support of our two-pronged attack on match-fixing through education and detection. Since 2011, over 10,000 players, youth players, referees as well as off-pitch staff have been active participants in our joint ‘Integrity Tour’ and all involved have really appreciated how awareness has gone up, sensitivity has increased and resistance is stronger. Put simply, Lega Pro is a case study for a robust approach, followed by commitment and action.”
