Anthony Jennens, chairman of problem gambling charity GamCare, has been recognised in the New Year Honours List.
Jennens has received a OBE for charitable services in the Prevention and Treatment of Gambling Addiction.
He is in good company among the charity’s trustees, which features president Lord Sharman of Redlynch OBE, vice presidents Bill Galston OBE and John Brackenbury CBE, Treasurer Ian McRobbie OBE TD DL and trustee Tom Kavanagh CBE.
Other awards related to the gambling industry come from the sport of horseracing. Former Cheltenham Racecourse managing director Edward Gillespie has been appointed an OBE for services to horseracing in Cheltenham, while Eddie York, the former Thirsk racecourse chairman and northern steward, has picked up the same for services to charity and the community in North Yorkshire. Nick Wingfield Digby, veterinary surgeon to the Royal Studs, has been appointed LVO (Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order).
