Gaming Regulators European Forum Set to Examine Affiliate Marketing

Racecaller LogoSpeaking at its annual conference hosted in Riga Latvia, The Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF) has announced it will look to examine the role of affiliates and affiliate marketing  within the online gaming market. The GREF following several days of discussions wants to aim to develop a ” common understanding of the role of affiliates”, placing special interest on ”ensuring that their activities and interaction with customers is appropriate, affords proper levels of protection and is in line with national licensing objectives”.

The GREF aims to form best practice on affiliate marketing, but also to align affiliate marketing with changes in regulation being seen throughout European igaming territories, making sure that affiliate promote licensed regional igaming operators, who abide with local with implemented laws and taxation fees with regards to their jurisdictions.  This examination of current European igaming will focus on all levels of performance marketing, not just affiliates.

Director and chairman of the GREF Håkan Hallstedt described the conference as ”a great success in discussing these marketing matters. Furthermore the GREF 22 member jurisdictions  also debated the impact of cross-border crime and growth of social gaming.  ”These are issues that sit at the heart of regulation, whatever our national position might be.” Hallstedt said.

Along with key issues realting to affiliate marketing the GREF also discussed the designing of a system to facilitate knowledge sharing between jurisdictions, and spearhead an initiative to provide improved training for new and existing staff of regulatory bodies. Furthermore the GREF want to form the basis to align basic European igaming regulation between member states, in order to make governance of igaming more cohesive for industry  thus “providing evidence-based policy development” and set standards for best practice.
