Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has issued a binding agreement with cloud service provider DigitalOcean in what is another step in the fight against illegal affiliate websites.
KSA highlighted that it is often difficult to track down the identity of the owners of these affiliate websites, and therefore the best approach is to work with hosting providers like DigitalOcean and completely block access to such websites that direct Dutch players to illegal gambling operators.
Two of the latest illegal affiliate websites to be singled out are casinozonderregistratie.net and nieuw-casinos.net.
A set of two other websites – nederlandscasinos.net and onlinecasinosspelen.com – were also recently flagged down by the KSA. This came as a result of the regulator collaborating with another global hosting network, Cloudflare, which again was conceived to safeguard the Dutch regulated market.
Under the issued binding agreements, hosting providers must stop access to all affiliate websites designated as illegal within four weeks of the request. Otherwise, the KSA’s follow-up actions might result in a sanction, including a financial penalty.
“In order to counter illegal offers, the KSA takes various measures, for example the erection of barriers with payment providers or internet providers,” the KSA added. “By ensuring that these intermediaries no longer offer their services to illegal providers, illegal offers are made more difficult or possibly even completely stopped.”
