Catena Media has appointed one of its board members as Interim Chief Technology Officer as the iGaming media group looks for a permanent hire.
Martin Zetterlund will lead the Stockholm-listed firm’s technology function until it finds a candidate for the role on a permanent basis.
He has been a member of the board at Catena since December 2024 and had previously founded Sentor Managed Security Services and ScrapeSentry.
Zetterlund also spent nearly four years as a Managing Director in Sweden at major professional services firm Accenture.
He replaces Edward Midolo, who spent eight years at the business and was promoted to the CTO role in April 2024. The reason for Midolo’s departure has not been disclosed.
“Martin has followed our technology work closely from the board and knows the organisation well,” said Catena Media’s Chief Executive Officer, Manuel Stan.
“His experience of building and running technology businesses will support the team while we complete the recruitment of a permanent CTO.”
Appointment follows Catena’s recovery stalling
The appointment follows Catena’s H1 results last month, where the company showed signs that its recovery was stalling slightly.
It had shown mainly positive signs throughout a revival which has seen the firm shift focus almost completely towards North America, but Q2 revenue remained broadly flat at €9.5m, and a 46% drop in EBITDA to €1.2m came as a severe blow.
The business remains resolute as it continues its shift from a traditional affiliate to a technical infrastructure platform provider, connecting publishers and advertisers through a wider marketplace.
This makes Zetterlund’s role all the more pivotal as Catena, like many other businesses in the sector, places more of an emphasis on the development and use of in-house technology systems.
The company’s recent approach is clearly catching the attention of investors, as its shares have experienced a rise of 74% on the Stockholm Nasdaq en route to reestablishing its reputation as one of the biggest gambling marketing groups worldwide.
