ESIC, ESL and Kindred Group to discuss pertinent integrity issues at Betting on Esports 2017

Key figures from across the esports industry will discuss and debate the key integrity issues in the burgeoning industry at September’s Betting on Esports conference at Olympia, London.

The panel will explore a wide range of topics, from software/hardware cheating to doping as well as examining whether or not esports has a major integrity scandal looming in the future.

Esports Integrity Commission Chairman Kevin Carpenter, ESL UK Managing Director James Dean and Kindred Group Integrity Officer Eric Konings will be considering how different parties in the space, from publishers and tournament organisers through to suppliers and bookmakers, can ensure integrity remains of paramount importance in esports.

The Esports Integrity Commission has made incredible ground this year, signing Memorandums of Understanding in Nevada and with the UKGC. Its partnerships now include the likes of Pinnacle, Unikrn, Betway and Sportradar as well as ESL, DreamHack and integrity bodies SIGA and ICSS. There’s been a wide range of collaborative efforts such as drug testing, integrity workshops and further education to prevent what many claim: “an inevitable integrity scandal”.

In recent times, high profile examples of match-fixing have been few and far between. Each year, the esports community expresses outrage that certain players are still banned for life after fixing a match years ago. Equally, they’re incandescent at the thought that a cheater can return after just a few years of absence. As the industry matures and competition continues to grow, more and more players will aspire to turning professional. It’s as important as anything that they know of the potential dangers on the road ahead. Whilst esports is certainly booming, it’s far from safe.

Carpenter said: “There is little doubt that one of the key governance issues for esports going forward, as it continues to grow, is to ensure that there is are co-ordinated efforts to maintain the integrity of the games and tournaments. As Chair of the Esport Integrity Coalition (ESIC) Disciplinary Panel it is important for us to educate all stakeholders about what ESIC does and how it is working to safeguard the future of the sector. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and the work ESIC do in the space at Betting on Esports in September.”

Konings commented: “I’m delighted to be contributing to the Betting on Esports integrity panel with such a wide range of industry stakeholders. Protecting integrity in any sport is of paramount importance and esports is no different. With such growth in the industry, it’s vital that we work together to avoid damaging future growth and i’m excited to discuss this at Betting on Esports”.
