Smarkets nominated for Amazon UK Growing Business Award

jasonTOnline betting exchange Smarkets, has made the prestigious shortlist for the 2016 ‘Amazon Growing Business Awards’, gaining a nomination for the ‘Best UK Business – Small Company (Turnover £11-25 million)’ category.

Hosted at East London’s The Brewery on 30 November, The Amazon Growing Business Awards’ recognises the best in UK business, enterprise and entrepreneurialism.

This year’s awards have seen over 500 UK businesses apply for consideration, previous Growing Business Awards’ winners include Betfair, Lovefilm, Innocent Drinks and Fever Tree beverages.

In its Small Company category, Smarkets will compete for the accolade against Office Space, Hunter Macdonald (Reading), Perkbox, Trak Global and Virtual1.

This September, Smarkets disclosed that having filed its 2015 financial earnings, the company had recorded corporate profits of £5.2 million up 1500% on FY 2014’s corresponding £316,000.

Posting a period of strong commercial growth with increased player activity, Smarkets further disclosed that the company had recorded + £1 billion in wagers on its online betting exchange product.

Founded by CEO Jason Trost, Smarkets seeks to compete against the UK’s biggest bookmakers by focusing on in-house development for its online betting exchange with a view of creating a unique customer experience within a saturated market place.
