FONbet Charged By Russian Anti Crime Unit

fonbetCuracao licensed FONbet.com, an online Sportsbook targeting the Russian gaming market has been formally charged by the Russian Government and Anti Crime and Corruption Unit for offering illegal betting services to Russian citizens.

Russian officials on Monday 24th of February charged the operator with ‘providing an unlicensed opportunity to engage in games of chance and betting for real money, including sports betting on sporting events through illegal / unlicensed digital portals’.

The Bookmaker currently operates 900 retail points in Russia. Russian news source Ria Novosti reported that FON’s central Moscow offices had been raided by anti-corruption police.

Russia is yet to formally set its legislation for igaming and online sports betting. Last December Oleg Zhuravskii, President of the Russian Bookmaker Association, commented that formulating the basis for a regulated online sports betting market would be in place by mid 2014. The Russian Bookmakers Association have begun procedures on the matter
