Sean Hurley – DraftKings

Boston-based daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings has signalled its intent to diversify its services by hiring Sean Hurley as its first-ever Head of Sportsbook.

Hurley joins DraftKings from betting and trading platform provider Amelco Ltd, where he most recently served as Head of Commercial operations (2017-2018), and will be tasked with delivering DraftKings’ initial online sportsbook property.

Hurley will join DraftKings’ new strategic office in Hoboken, New Jersey, where he will lead sportsbook planning, reporting to DraftKings Chief Revenue Officer and co-founder Matt Kalish.

“Sean brings a wealth of gaming experience to DraftKings and furthers our ability to be a leader in the sports betting market,” details Kalish in DraftKings corporate update.

DraftKings leadership anticipates a favourable result in the pending US Supreme Court decision of Chris Christie v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, repealing PASPA provisions at a state-level.

The DFS operator believes that a favourable licensed betting judgement by the Supreme Court will lead to ‘a new line of business for DraftKings’.

DraftKings CEO and co-founder Jason Robins has previously detailed launching a sports betting property, should the opportunity arise within DraftKings home US market.

This February, industry consultancy firm Eilers & Krejcik Research detailed that the US DFS market may have been completely tapped up by DraftKings and fierce rival FanDuel.
