The ‘Global Football Report 2019’, released today by the working partnership of Stats Perform’s integrity unit, Starlizard Integrity Services and TXODDS, found that matches identified as having suspicious betting patterns decreased from 397 to 377 in the last year.

The report, which aims to provide stakeholders of the sports integrity community with an informative overview of current trends related to suspicious football betting patterns, has compared data acquired from 62,250 matches played in 2018 across 115 countries in 6 continents.

Jake Marsh, Head of Integrity at Stats Perform, said: “This report is intended to provide football and integrity stakeholders with meaningful insight into matches with suspicious betting markets on a global scale. We believe that by shining a light on suspicious activity in a non-accusatory public forum we can elevate understanding of the latest trends and areas of concern to integrity stakeholders.”

As well as collecting the data, the report has also compared its findings with the previous 2018 report, highlighting that the number of football matches identified as having suspicious betting patterns had decreased by 20 (397 to 377) despite expanding the number of matches reviewed by an estimated 14%.

Marsh continued: “The efforts of integrity stakeholders, sports governing bodies and law enforcement are amplified when working together towards a common goal. To this end, we share the results of our analysis with stakeholders on a non-commercial basis in order to assist their efforts in protecting the integrity of football.”

Along with covering senior international and club matches, the report also looked in-depth into youth football, which accounted for 5.6% of this year’s analysed matches. Following the reviews, it was revealed that despite a decrease from 62 to 58 between 2017 and 2018 regarding suspicious matches, youth matches still accounted for 15.4% of all identified suspicious matches.
